Paul Ryan Says Trump Should Let Mueller 'Do His Job'

A friend of the president says Donald Trump is considering "terminating" special counsel Robert Mueller.

Firing Mueller would be a politically explosive move that would raise new questions about Trump, whose dismissal of James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director generated accusations of obstruction of justice and led to Mueller's appointment.

"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel", Ruddy said in an interview with Judy Woodruff of "PBS NewsHour".

Mueller was appointed by US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US polls. "One of my sources reached out to me just before we went on air, and they said there's mass hysteria in the West Wing about this".

Speaking at a Senate appropriations subcommittee hearing today (June 13), Rosenstein confirmed Trump could not legally outright fire Mueller himself, and assured senators that the Justice Department has given Mueller the "full independence he needs to conduct that investigation".

Sanders said Trump saw part of Sessions's testimony and "thought that Attorney General Sessions did a very good job and, in particular, was very strong on the point that there was no collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign".

Technically, it's up to the attorney general to decide what to do with the special counsel.

Later Tuesday, Rosenstein told a Senate panel that he would not follow an edict from Trump to fire Mueller unless he believed the order was "lawful and appropriate".

Mueller and former FBI Director James Comey worked closely for years in the George W. Bush administration, when Mueller was FBI director and Comey was deputy attorney general.

The comment came in response to questions from Democratic Sen. If Rosenstein refused, Trump could fire him, too. "I personally think it would be a significant mistake, even though I don't think there is a justification [for a special counsel]".

"I think the best thing to do is to let Robert Mueller do his job". Look who he is hiring.check fec reports.

On ABC, Gingrich said Mueller's team of lawyers are "bad people" and it is "delusional" to think Mueller's team could be fair to Trump.

White House staffers have nonetheless sought to talk Trump down from the idea. The person demanded anonymity to discuss strategy on the sensitive matter. "I've been friends the president for a long time". Still, he added, "I can't imagine that that issue is going to arise". Ruddy said Tuesday that he stands by his comments.

Top House GOP leaders appeared frustrated at the news conference about the multiple questions about Mueller's probe and what might happen if he were forced out of his position.
