At 6 p.m., ANF officials reported containment of the fire to be 78 percent.

Angeles National Forest spokesman Nathan Judy says a blaze in a remote area near Lake Castaic is holding at 1,000 acres and 10 percent containment Sunday.

"There are hotspots burning", Licon said early Sunday.

"Initially, when we showed up, it was three to five acres in our area", he said, "and then it moved rapidly into the Angeles National Forest".

According to the L.A. County Fire Department, the Lake Fire broke out Saturday afternoon in a hard-to-reach area near Castaic Lake and the 5 Freeway. Officials had said about 35 homes were threatened by the flames.

Asked about the heat, Judy said: "Our firefighters are used to working in hot temperatures, especially when they're around the fire".

The fire was contained around midnight.

"Because it's moving so quickly, the biggest issue is catching up to it", Licon said. "We did find some small, isolated heat sources within the interior of the fire", said Nathan Judy, a fire information officer with the Angeles National Forest.

The wind speed dropped significantly as evening approached, he said.

Some fire resources are being relieved as of 9 a.m. Sunday, but it's more due to the access concerns for vehicles, and a reduced need for structure protection crews where the fire is now burning, according to Nathan Judy of the Angeles National Forest Service.

In Riverside County over the weekend, firefighters tackled a 10-acre brush fire near Beaumont, a 40-acre fire near Moreno Valley and a 20-acre blaze just north of Lake Elsinore.
