Manchester City's Sergio Aguero celebrates scoring their second goal

Chelsea have "serious and strong interest" in sensational swoop for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Chelsea had hoped to sign Romelu Lukaku to replace the Spaniard, but were gazumped by Manchester United, and now Sky Sports claim they have switched their attention to Aguero.

Only time will tell where the Argentina talisman will play next season.

United had been heavily linked to Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, with a fee of £70 million expected, but Mourinho's team preferred to sign Lukaku.

Sky Sports News HQ understands it will be very hard for Chelsea to sign Aguero with Manchester City reluctant to let him leave.

"I don't think since the new owners came in at City back in 2008 they've ever sold a player they don't want to sell".

When asked if Aguero was staying in May, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: "Absolutely".

'Having Sergio Aguero as part of the squad is an absolute must.

Aguero is widely regarded as one of the top strikers in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether Manchester City would really consider letting him leave the club this summer, especially to join a title rival. "It has never been in doubt".

Chelsea have the funds to put in a tempting bid to City for Aguero and to offer the striker attractive terms, while they may feel their status as Premier League champions could prove valuable in negotiations.
