How to prepare for the solar eclipse

Solar Eclipse Safety
The first total solar eclipse visible from the USA mainland since 1979, and the first where totality will sweep across the continent in 99 years, the upcoming eclipse is causing quite a stir.
This is close to pure luck, given that the eclipse passes between a large volume of utility-scale solar in both North Carolina and Georgia, which have emerged as some of the top states for solar, and directly through relatively underdeveloped SC.
While the total eclipse will be viewable further south, most Wisconsin residents will still be able to see the moon cover more than 70 percent of the sun.
"We used to say that you should look for evidence that they comply with the ISO 12312-2 global safety standard for filters for direct viewing of the sun", according to a statement on the American Astronomical Society's website.
Eclipse-watchers view a projected image of the sun. "Most people have never been in close proximity to an eclipse so this is a big deal", said a Rainbow Symphony, a large solar eclipse glasses online retailer. They will reduce the amount of light coming through and will make it safer to view. Be sure to look for ones with a safety marking, which will indicate a rating of "ISO 12312-2". The event will feature live music from Oracle Blue, free eclipse glasses, live streaming of NASA's coverage of the eclipse as it crosses the US, and live streaming coverage of the aviary in the Lowcountry Zoo, among other activities.
Thousands and Thousands of Solar Eclipses, all these years; what would be even new, you might think?
Get Ready for the Solar Eclipse, Wednesday, August 16, from 6 to 7 p.m.at the Edgewood Library.
The rare event offers educational opportunities for everyone, however.
"We're bringing in an expert to show kids what's going to happen at the eclipse, what to expect, and then they'll get some hands on interaction with some really cool science equipment", McLean said.
In preparation for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21, Morehead State University's Star Theater will host special presentations of the program "Totality", Aug. 14 through 18.
Eye Care Specialists, which has locations across Luzerne County, also pledged to give out free eclipse glasses to anyone who stops by - while supplies last.
Solar eclipses occur more frequently than most people believe, according to NASA.
If you're lucky, Lopez said, and you didn't look for long, that blurred or distorted vision might - repeat, might - clear up on its own, although that could be several months down the line. Protective glasses will be available to attendees of the August 21 library event. There will be a noticed darkening of the sky similar to a cloud blocking the sun. At 12:15pm, APSU faculty and students will lead everyone to the campus' Fortera Stadium to watch the eclipse. But these take-your-breath-away eclipses usually occur in the middle of the ocean somewhere, though, or near the sparsely populated top or bottom of the world.
Darkness will last just under two minutes in OR, gradually expanding to a maximum two minutes and 44 seconds in Shawnee National Forest in southernmost IL, nearly into Kentucky, then dwindling to 2 1/2 minutes in SC.
