Uber's Search for a New CEO Is a Bumpy Ride

Kalanick brushes up image to launch Uber comeback

Uber board member Garrett Camp is now working to dispel those return rumors, telling employees in an email that he's been fielding questions lately about Kalanick's comeback and confirming that it's definitely not gonna happen.

Uber Technologies Inc. executives are trying to ease tensions stemming from Travis Kalanick's attempts, in the weeks since he was ousted, to remain involved with the business and eventually seek a new role there. We are committed to hiring a new world class CEO to lead Uber. With the choice now only down to men, Uber's next leader will not be a woman, which goes against previous hopes and predictions that a female-led Uber would somehow help the company's tarnished image. The meeting was previously reported by BuzzFeed and Camp's email by Recode.

Uber co-founder and former CEO Travis Kalanick won't be returning to his executive position, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

I've spent a lot of time focused on Uber these past few months, talking to employees in product and engineering and helping wherever I can.

Camp notes Uber must evolve and mature as it undergoes a radical transition in workplace culture and practices. Thank you for all your hard work.

In the deposition, Kalanick reiterates that he told former Waymo engineer Anthony Levandowski that Uber did not want any files from the other company.

Kalanick resigned in June after fellow board members and deep-pocketed investors pressured him to do so. The Information reports that Kalanick isn't now pursuing a shareholder battle.

Right now, Uber is in the process of finding a new CEO.
