After Trump's warning: North Korea says it may attack Guam

Trump says nations 'must be tough' on North Korea

Trump retweets Fox News story containing classified info

President Donald Trump says that North Korea "had best not make any more threats to the United States" or "they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen".

The threat came after U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to counter threats from Pyongyang with "fire and fury" if the country further endangers the United States. "The great leaders I've seen don't threaten unless they're ready to act and I'm not sure President Trump is ready to act", he said in an interview with Phoenix radio station KTAR.

In January, Trump tweeted: "North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!"

His comments came after a Washington Post report, citing U.S. intelligence officials, said Pyongyang had produced a nuclear warhead small enough to fit inside its missiles.

"I can't talk about anything that's classified and if that's in the newspaper that's a shame", Haley said Tuesday on "Fox and Friends" when asked about the story that cites two anonymous sources. In November 2010, the North attacks a front-line island, killing four South Koreans.

The DIA completed the analysis in July, shortly after another intelligence assessment that sharply raises the official estimate for the total number of bombs in the communist country's atomic arsenal, the Post said. The arming of a patrol boat could indicate preparations for another missile test by North Korea.

It's unclear how North Korea's new capabilities will immediately affect how the US approaches the country's regular missile launches and occasional nuclear tests.

Meanwhile, Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) reminded Trump would need an approval from Congress to strike North Korea.

Yonhap reported that the North's strategic force in charge of the country's ballistic missiles issued a statement that it is seriously reviewing measures to send a strong message that it can neutralize the USA military bases in Guam that house nuclear bombers and other key assets, with its Hwasong-12 missiles.

Trump's broadside on Tuesday sparked warnings that he was pouring fire on an already volatile situation, and could be playing into Pyongyang's hands by validating its narrative that the USA wants to go to war with North Korea - a rallying point for the regime. The state-run KCNA news agency said a strike plan the Pacific island would be "put into practice in a multi-current and consecutive way any moment" pending Kim's decision.

Aides to the last USA president, Barack Obama, echoed that concern.

North Korea threatened to hit Guam with its Hwasong-12 missiles, which it says can carry a heavy nuclear warhead.

North Korea often commemorates significant events with stamps.

And a CBS News poll released Tuesday showed that 61% of Americans were uneasy about Trump's ability to handle the situation with North Korea.

What can North Korea do to the U.S.?

North Korea claimed in September that it had successfully tested the kind of nuclear warhead described in the report.

Officials at the agency wouldn't comment Tuesday.

Trump sharply intensified his rhetoric against North Korea on Tuesday, threatening "fire and fury" over its weapons programmes.
