A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for London.

After an bad day filled with torrential rain across Essex, the Met Office's latest forecast suggests that the end is finally near.

While Met Office chief forecaster Steve Ramsdale added: "An area of heavy rain will sink slowly southwards across the east and southeast of England during Wednesday".

Another band of heavy rain will then pass over the United Kingdom during Wednesday when the heaviest rain is likely.

The Environment Agency is expecting the river Leen in Nottinghamshire to flood, while areas around the North Sea coast at Scarborough have been put on alert. Where these occur they are likely to be heavy, slow moving and perhaps thundery. "There will be moderate to heavy falls widely and localised flooding is possible".

A total of three inches would top the average rainfall for the whole of August in many places.

Heavy rain has been forecast until 5pm.

The rain will turn heavy and persistent at times, particularly during the early hours.

"A second storm tracking to south of England on Wednesday will bring another round of soaking rains".
