In April, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced that eSports will be a medal sport at the 2022 Asian Games in China, the boldest step yet toward mainstream recognition of competitive gaming. When it comes to the Summer Olympics, big sports like gymnastics, swimming and track and field remain popular and highly watched, but organizers are looking to reach out to a younger audience when it comes to viewership. The news comes via the Co-President of the Olympics Committee Tony Estanguet who recently told the Associated Press that discussions were being held with various E-Sports representative to ensure that gaming becomes a part of the 2024 Olympics.

Going from groups of friends organizing LAN tournaments to stadiums packed with fans eager to watch their favorite competitors and millions tuning in to watch streams, eSports have really grown over the past past few years. "The youth are interested, so let's meet them". "We have to look at it because we can't say, 'It's not us.' It's not about Olympics".

Estanguet said he plans to hold meetings with esports representatives and the International Olympic Committee in the near future, as the addition of sports to the 2024 Games will be determined after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. "Let's try if we can find some bridges". All of this could potentially be leading to eSports' inclusion at the Olympics in 2024.

THE Olympic dreams of couch potatoes have been resurrected after a Paris 2024 bid chief said he wants to bring esports to the Games.

"There is some time to look at it, to interact, to engage", said Estanguet. "We will spend some time after Lima (the International Olympic Committee meeting in September) to engage with new people and stakeholders".

"The IOC will have the last say, if they want esports on the program".

In July 2016, the WADA commission led by Richard McLaren presented a report accusing Russia of running a state-wide doping program and urged the IOC to ban the entire Russian team to consider a blanket ban on the entire Russian Olympic team. Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves, though.
