Ali was first to report that MSNBC was in talks to hire Hugh Hewitt and give him his own show, which it did.

Ali said that Bolling's lawsuit is directed at him personally - not the Huffington Post - and vowed to continue reporting the same way he has been, despite the lawsuit.

The report said the women, all Bolling's current or former colleagues at Fox News, found the images of male genitalia they received from Bolling "deeply upsetting and offensive".

Commenting on the situation, CNN noted, "Some industry observers think Fox will do everything it can to bring Bolling back, given that he's a rising star and one of the staunchest pro-Trump voices on the network".

On Wednesday, the reporter tweeted that he stands by his story and will protect his sources.

Now it appears Bolling intends to escalate the situation.

"The nature of this action is for damages and injunctive relief based on defamation arising from the defendants's efforts to injure the plaintiff's reputation through the intentional and/or highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements about the plaintiff's conduct and character", the summons states.

Fox News suspended Bolling the day after the allegations were made public and launched an investigation into the claims.

Bolling is represented by Michael Bowe - a lawyer from the same firm as Marc Kasowitz, President Trump's personal attorney until July.

A spokesperson for Fox told The Hill on Saturday that Bolling will be investigated by the Paul Weiss law firm.

"I look forward to clearing my name asap", he tweeted Monday. "Thank you", Bolling wrote to his 706,000 followers.

The summons, which was filed Wednesday in NY state court, says Bolling is seeking both damages and injunctive relief arising from Ali's efforts to injure his reputation through "intentional and/or highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements" about his conduct and character.

The allegations against Bolling follow a tumultuous year for Fox News.

While, Bolling remains under investigation, Caroline Heldman, an associate professor at Occidental College, came forward on social media and recounted a number of unusual interactions with Bolling.

"I did hundreds of appearances on Fox and Fox Business from 2008 - 2011, and had multiple experiences with Bolling that caused grave concern to my friends and family", Heldman wrote in a Facebook post.
