N. Korea Threatens to Fire Ballistic Missiles to Contain US Air Bases in Guam

Guam adviser urges calm after North Korea threat

The Air Force base is where U.S. B-1B Lancers are stationed for missions over the Korean Peninsula.

B-1 bomber presence in the region is not new, however.

The KPA will start retaliatory operation "once a slight sign of the USA provocation scheming to dare carry out a beheading operation against the supreme headquarters of the Korean revolution out of wild calculation is detected", said the spokesman.

"Aircrews, maintenance and support personnel, will continue generating B-1 bomber sorties to demonstrate the continuing US commitment to stability and security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, providing commanders with a strategic power projection platform and fulfilling the need for anytime mission-ready aircraft, an important part of national defense during a time of high regional tension", the statement continued. The statement said that the US bombers get on the nerves of North Korea due to their frequent flights over the South Korean airspace.

The Washington Post, citing a USA intelligence assessment, reported earlier in the day that the reclusive country successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit onto a missile.

From down south, Clint Simpson from Ipan, Talofofo stated, "I don't think North Korea does anything that China doesn't want it to do".

The North Korean army said in a statement distributed on Aug 9 by the state-run news agency that it was studying a plan to create an "enveloping fire" in areas around Guam with medium- to long-range ballistic missiles.

North Korea said on Wednesday it is considering a strike on the US Pacific territory of Guam, hours after President Donald trump said any threat from Pyongyang would be met with "fire and fury".

"Well", added Unpingco, "If the United States says they're going to give them a last warning, they should because it's going to keep escalating, and to me I'm not scared about North Korea threatening Guam because I'm a retired military and I know how it is".

The move also took place days after the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution to reinforce economic sanctions against the DPRK for its nuclear and missile program.
