A gun was discovered by Transportation Security Administration officers at Logan Airport Monday. No, your bottle of half-finished water probably isn't posing a national security threat, but as far as air travel goes, it's way better to be safe than any form of sorry.

A North Carolina woman who authorities say brought a loaded handgun to the airport has been cited.

The arrest comes five days after a Bridgewater man was arraigned on firearms charges in connection to a handgun found in his carry-on.

TSA is using this incident as a reminder that there is a proper way to travel with a firearm.

TSA spokesperson Sari Koshetz said, "You see the way people fling their bags onto the x-ray belt in the checkpoints and if one of those guns is loaded and it discharges, there could be a fatal, tragic result".

Safety is the first concern of TSA, he said, having guns in bags that are traveling with you on the aircraft is unsafe to other travelers and can be easily mistaken as an intentional attempt to bring a prohibited item onto an aircraft. Travelers who bring such items to a security checkpoint can be subject to criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties up to $12,000.
