Nawaz Sharif's 'Islamabad to Lahore' rally may backfire big time

Federal Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique offered condolence to the family of the boy who was crushed to death by a vehicle in Nawaz Sharif's rally, and said that his comrades had visited the grieving family.

"A 13-year-old boy who had came to see the rally was hit by a vehicle in the convoy", Sajid Ali, head of the local Lalamusa police station, told AFP.

Railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique called the teenager "the first martyr of this movement for democracy" in an address to the thousands-strong crowd in nearby Gujrat.

Sharif said in his Gujrat speech he would personally visit the boy's home "and try to help his family for life".

Sharif halted in Jehlum for the night, where he told the swelling crowd of around 10,000 people that the Supreme Court's decision to depose him last month after a corruption probe was an "insult" to Pakistanis.

Daughter of former premier Nawaz Sharif took to Twitter and expressed that the local leadership has been asked to reach out to the family of the boy. The convoy was surrounded by heavy security, with fears lingering after a truck bomb exploded in Lahore on Monday, killing one person and injuring dozens.

Sharif, 67, said that it was pity that none of the prime ministers in the 70-year history of the country have been allowed to complete their tenure.

Following the apex court's verdict, the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) announced Punjab Chief Minister and Nawaz Sharif's younger brother Shehbaz Sharif as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.

After her husband's incarceration following the military coup by Gen Pervez Musharraf in 1999, Kulsoom had successfully led the party, though she never contested elections.

In a statement issued in Lahore on Friday, the said that historic reception of Nawaz Sharif is a proof of people's tremendous love for him and it also shows that the masses want national development.
