Dear Rahul Battle For India Will Be Fought in Hinterlands Not Silicon Valley

Central office bearers have held two meetings with state Congress leaders and legislators in less than 24 hours in the absence of state president Ashok Chaudhary.

Ranes remarks come amid recent reports that he was on way to joining the BJP.

Of the 27 Congress MLAs in Bihar, about 6-7 MLAs met Gandhi on Wednesday.

In the month of July, Nitish Kumar tended his resignation as the Chief Minister of Bihar.

Bihar Congress chief Ashok Chaudhary on Thursday said that some senior leaders in Delhi tasked to handle the state's affairs were conspiring against him and "spreading rumours" that he was trying to split the party.

The Congress Vice President is now grappling with the party's sliding electoral graph after a series of defeats. "Had the programme been in Mumbai, I would have attended", said Rane, a former chief minister. However, Congress spokesman Premchandra Mishra said JD (U)'s efforts to engineer a split in the party have turned futile.

Gandhi, addressing the national executive meeting of All India Fishermen Congress, said: "The Congress party will make strong interferences to ensure fishing guarantee for the fishermen in the country". He believes that if needed, the Congress can ally with the Rashtriya Janata Dal ahead of the 2019 elections to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party. As of now, continuance of alliance with RJD would weaken the morale of party workers in the state.

Gandhi will visit Maharashtra on Friday and then travel to Jammu on Sunday as part of the Congress delegation that also includes former PM Manmohan Singh, before leaving for the US. "What can the Congress offer us while being in Opposition", asked one Congress MLA while another was more brazen, saying, "if we stay in the Opposition we might not even win another election but if we join hands with Nitish, we might get something in return and perhaps win the next assembly polls also".

A few days ago, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, hoping to avoid a Gujarat-like scenario, met top leaders Ashok Chaudhary and Sadanand Singh. There are speculations that Chaudhary has support of 14 Congress MLAs and four MLCs in Bihar, but they need four more MLAs to escape anti-defection law for crossing over to JD (U).

This prompted RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to allege that Nitish was engineering a split in the Congress, a charge Nitish vehemently contested.
