Disney World's website states that the resort will be closed on Sunday and Monday, which is when forecasts call for the worst of Hurricane Irma to hit central Florida.

Walt Disney World will be open Saturday, but with "modifed hours".

Universal Studio Orlando will close at 7 p.m. Saturday and will remain closed through Monday.

Disney said it hopes to operate on a regular schedule starting September 12.

Irma is expected to remain a Category 4 storm when it hits someplace south of Miami on Sunday, with winds of up to 150 miles per hour. Discovery Cove will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

Universal is going ahead with tonight's Rock the Universe Christian music concert, but canceled Saturday's show. Earlier this week, the resort cancelled two special events set to take place on Saturday: The Night of Joy concert at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex and the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

There will be staggered closings at the various theme parks on Saturday. Illuminations, Fantasmic!, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, and Rivers of Light are all canceled on Saturday night. As of Friday afternoon, no warnings were in effect for Orlando or surrounding areas. For more details see

As of Thursday, Disney had planned to keep all attractions except its Blizzard Beach Water Park open. The state is home to several theme parks, which have been forced to shutter their doors in preparation for the Category 4 storm that killed at least 20 people in the Caribbean this week and left thousands more without homes.
