Stoke 2 Manchester United 2
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho feels Stoke City deserved a point, following their 2-2 draw at the Bet 365 Stadium. It was perfectly understandable, though part of me would have liked to see more of the Mata-Henrikh Mkhitaryan-Paul Pogba creative axis.
Manchester United dropped points for the first time this season after levelling the match with the Potters. Both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly were poor.
"Maybe that's why he didn't want to shake my hand".
Mourinho said "it's not easy to come from behind" at Stoke on a normal day.
Still, Mourinho declared himself pleased with United's position on top of the table, ahead of Manchester City on goal difference.
The former Man United striker pushed Mourinho when he entered the Stoke technical area and Mourinho refused to shake his opposite number's hand at the final whistle because he believed he was told to "f*** off" by the Welshman.
It was a tempestuous affair on the touchline, with Hughes shoving Mourinho away from his technical area during the second half, before the Portuguese left the dugout at full-time without offering a handshake. Sometimes managers of top-six clubs don't take negative results too kindly.
"It is a bad question because it looks like it's my fault, it's my problem and your question is not correct, I am sorry".
"In fairness, I've got history with non-handshakes so maybe it's me!"
Mourinho brushed aside the issue in his post-match press conference, though he was keen to stress he was not in the wrong when asked before his press conference.
"So I don't know what the stats are, but I'd argue that in general play they played more long balls than we did because they've got that threat and that's what they try to exploit".
Mourinho said a draw against Stoke was a "fair result", even though he claimed only one team wanted to win.
The United boss went on to say that Stoke "fought hard" for the point and they got it but he felt that his team's "performance was more than enough for the point".
James Franklin slights Pitt after Penn State's win
We put 14 points on the board and that's not a bad half, but for us, we felt like we weren't playing our best football. He marched the offense down the field last season at will and looked nearly unstoppable in this year's season opener.
Andy Murray congratulates brother Jamie on US Open win
There are no ranking points up for grabs in mixed doubles but the pair will share $US70,000 ($NZ96,500) prizemoney between them. For us, it's like so much fun to go there and play and play in a huge stadium, a lot of people coming out to watch".
