Nissan-Renault Seeks to Boost Annual Vehicle Sales to 14 Million
He said two new platforms would join the alliance's CMF common architecture, one for compact cars such as the Micra, Clio and Captur crossover and one for electric vehicles, likely shared between the next generation of Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf.
"Becoming an operator of robo-vehicle ride-hailing services is a major part of the new mobility services strategy", the statement added.
The alliance forecasts unit sales of 14 million and combined revenues of $240 billion, up more than 30 percent on the $180 billion aggregate revenues achieved in 2016.
Equally important, those 12 vehicles will "utilize common platforms and components" across all three brands, meaning significant economies of scale.
The targets were announced as part of a new strategic plan by the alliance after its takeover of Mitsubishi a year ago.
Aiming to maintain its position as an EV powerhouse while taking the lead on autonomous and connected-car technologies, the new plan calls for no fewer than a dozen new full-electric vehicles by the calendar year 2022.
Carlos Ghosn has always been careful to say that the success of the Renault-Nissan alliance should be measured in synergies among the partners, not sales growth.
Ghosn pledged to increase that figure to more than 9 million alliance vehicles on four common platforms. We intend to deliver on growing synergies, with three autonomous companies cooperating with the efficiency of one.
By the end of the plan, the member companies will share 22 engines out of a total of 31, compared with 14 engines out of a combined total of 38 in 2016.
The doubling of synergies will be achieved partially by contributions from Mitsubishi Motors, specifically through deeper localisation, joint plant utilisation, common vehicle platforms, and an expanded presence in mature and emerging markets, the Alliance said in the statement.
By 2022, the member companies will significantly increase their product range to cover all main segments in their key markets of Japan, the USA, China and Europe.
Ghosn said the alliance would introduce 12 new electric vehicles by 2022, staking out its territory in the mass market and affordable sectors.
The automotive alliance that consists of French automaker Renault together with Nissan and Mitsubishi, plus their respective brands, has branded itself the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance.
Nissan said its EVs would boast more than 600km of range by 2022, based on NEDC homologation methodology.
