Singapore Grand Prix gets new four-year F1 deal

Singapore Grand Prix extends Formula 1 until 2021

F1 Singapore Grand Prix extended for another four years to 2021

The motorsport series came under new ownership this year when the US sports and entertainment firm Liberty Media bought out investment fund CVC Capital Partners, and Carey ended Bernie Ecclestone's reign lasting almost 40 years.

"Singapore is new territory for me, but I don't mind that at all", he says in Williams' race preview.

“Our focus as of today is making sure that the 21 races next year is everything as it can be.

"We are looking forward to offering our continued support to make the next four years even more spectacular and exciting".

This weekend Lewis Hamilton and Sebastien Vettel duke it out in Marina Bay for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The first track to ever stage a night race in the sport has just extended its contract until 2021 and all involved will be hoping it gives the fans some excitement a decade after it held its inaugural race. "I think it can bring Ferrari and us right into that battle". "Asia and the Americas are truly unique opportunities for us".

Chase Carey, the chairman and CEO of Formula One, said the race was "a signature" of the World Championship calendar - and one of its most "thrilling events".

In the past, F1 has been criticised for striking one sided deals heavily in their favour with local race promoters not getting enough out of the millions of dollars they cough up as hosting fees. Formula 1 is my first and only priority. It is still early days. "We've certainly got stronger and stronger and I think at the high down force circuits this year we've been pretty good and getting better".

“We believe agreements should always reflect ongoing fair value between two parties.
