One of television's most entertaining game show hosts, Monty Hall, né Monte Halparin, died on Yom Kippur-Saturday from heart failure at age 96 in his Beverly Hills home.

The game show host began his career in regional television in the 1950s and early in the 60s on several television shows, including "Cowboy Theater", "Fun in the Morning", and "Video Village", according to the website IMDB.

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], October 1: Iconic game-show host Monty Hall is no more.

"Let's Make a Deal" premiered in 1963, and became known for the wild costumes that the studio guests wore to attract Hall's attention.

In addition to Gleason, Hall is survived by daughter Sharon Hall and son Richard; a brother Robert Hall; and five grandchildren.

We wish the Hall family and friends our deepest condolences.

But Monty Hall managed, always, to seem an advocate for the hapless contestant, even though he represented the show's producers' ruthless thirst for spectacle, for comeuppance.

Hall was also known for doing lots of charity work in his private life.

After almost 5,000 episodes' worth of shows that make it an unforgettable TV icon, we'll sorely miss Monty Hall for his contributions to American television.

Born in Manitoba, Canada, Hall obtained a chemistry degree from the University of Manitoba. His daughter, Sharon Hall, said, "He was the greatest father on the planet. he was the dad who called every single night to see how your day was and never exhausted of hearing the details". But bitten by the stage bug thanks to appearances in student shows, he left for NY. It has been reported that Hall appeared in over 4,500 episodes of the hit game show. He re-invented the catch phrase when announcing who would compete next on Let's Make A Deal.
