The vigil in Nashville, which took place at the Ascend Amphitheater, was held in remembrance of those who were killed in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday night (Oct. 1), when a shooter opened fire on the crowd of more than 20,000 people gathered for the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Those aren't the candles that matter, those aren't the lights that matter.
"The counterweight to grief is community and that is what Nashville does so well", Mayor Megan Barry said, echoing the sentiments of Urban and everyone else in attendance.
Both were held - along with many others across the United States - after suspected gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd at an open air concert in the city.
Join us this evening for some time to reflect, pray, meditate or whatever fits your personal beliefs, for the victims, their family and friends, and the entire community of Las Vegas. "You shouldn't have to worry about dying", Barry said.
