Roman Polanski Accused of Rape by Former German Actress

Switzerland: New rape charge against Roman Polanski, the police opens an investigation

Polanski's lawyers have refused to discuss the latest allegation. Langer, now 61, stated in an interview that she thought Switzerland's elimination of a statute of limitations on child sex abuses would allow her complaint to be investigated, but found that the law applied only to cases more recent than hers.

Langer said she had not told police until now because she was anxious about her parents' reactions; her mother died two years ago and her father died over the summer.

"As you know, Samantha Geimer has been asking for over 30 years for this thing to end", Polanski said.

Asked why she did not report he claims earlier, Ms Langer said: "My mother would have had a heart attack".

Polanski said he is particularly proud of it because it marks the first time that he, as a director, has focused on a story that explores the inner lives of two women and their conflict with each other.

She told police in Switzerland that the assault happened at Polanski's previous home in Gstaad. Langer is now the fourth woman to come forward to publicly accuse Polanski of sexual assault.

Police and the state prosecutor's office in the northern city of St. Gallen say Renate Langer, 61, issued the complaint over the alleged rape in February 1972 in a city police station on September 26.

All told, four women accused Polanski of sexually assaulting them while they were teenagers.

Renate did not previously report Polanski to authorities out of concern for her now-deceased parents.

Langer said that she was speaking out now because she had read the account of the woman who came forward in August and because her parents are no longer alive.

Polanski's film career continued after fleeing the United States.

Mr Polanski pleaded guilty in the United States in 1977 to having unlawful sex with 13-year-old Samantha Geimer. I then was locked up here [in Zurich] after this festival.

"I went to jail".

Despite mainly being confined to France, Mr Polanski has won eight Cesars - the French equivalent of an Oscar - and won the best director Academy Award for the Holocaust movie, The Pianist.

In 2010, British actress Charlotte Lewis also accused Polanski of abusing her sexually when she was 16.
