After murmurings of an ankle injury ahead of the weekend win against Crystal Palace, a report from ESPN has now explained that a similar issue kept Lukaku out of training with his national side on Monday.

Belgium have confirmed that Romelu Lukaku did not suffer a fracture or any structural damage to his injured ankle.

"The next days he will follow an individual training program".

The Belgian global - who clinched a money-spinning transfer to Manchester United from Everton in July - had been staying in Los Angeles with France and Manchester United star Paul Pogba on holiday.

ROBERTO MARTINEZ has played down injury fears over Romelu Lukaku - but has promised Jose Mourinho he will not rush him back.

He added: "At the moment, Romelu is working separately", Martinez told a news conference on Wednesday.

"For me, I see that it is a bit hard for him to be involved on Saturday, but we are still hopeful that he can be involved on Tuesday". "I can not, professionally speaking, say, "Do this or do that".

The Belgian coach stressed that his people are in constant touch with Manchester United's medical team regarding Lukaku and he is keen to remain patient with the player's recovery. It is a period of the season that is really busy.

However, Lukaku - who already has 11 goals to his name at club level this season - is a likely participant in the home match against Cyprus on October 10.
