Cleveland OH USA- The Cleveland Cavaliers' Dwyane Wade puts up a shot on the Boston Celtics' Marcus Smart in the first quarter on Tuesday Oct. 17 2017 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland

Citing a knee contusion, Wade will miss the Cavs' Wednesday night matchup with the Brooklyn Nets.

But, hey, the Cleveland Cavaliers aren't even five games deep into their 2017-18 National Basketball Association season, so there's definitely time for Wade and Love to come up with something a little bit more creative and lively. "Why wait? Three games in, why wait?"

Said Lue: "We talked about it before he got here; it'd be a better fit with him coming off the bench".

Wade is averaging just 5.7 points and shooting 28 percent in his first season with Cleveland. He has scored in single digits in all three games, something he did only six times in 60 games with the Bulls last season, when he finished with averages of 18.3 points, 43.4 percent shooting, 31.0 percent on 3s and 3.8 assists.

Wade's first game as a reserve with the Cavs is Tuesday against his old team, the Bulls.

Four games into the season, JR Smith is going back to the starting lineup in place of Dwyane Wade.

Coming off the bench was discussed then, but the two chose to try starting first, since that's what Wade had done throughout his career.

James expected Wade to go through an adjustment period.

"That's what professionals do", Lue said.

Coach Tyronn Lue praised Wade's selflessness as "big time". Wade felt taking on a different role would accelerate the process.

"I came here for one reason", Wade said.

Wade looked spry and lively in the preseason, so the Cavs remain confident he can be a productive contributor to a team with championship aspirations.

"I think the first week, like he told y'all, was a long week for him just trying to adjust to a new system, adjust to what we're trying to do", James said. The one thing is, you want to be healthy enough so that we can play the lineups that we want to play together and then the rest of it will come.
