Sam Clovis Yanks Nom As Top USDA Scientist After Revealed To Be “Campaign Supervisor” In Rob Mueller Indictments

Why Attorney General Jeff Sessions will never indict Hillary Clinton

Lieu said Sessions should resign from his post because "the top law enforcement official in the United States cannot have committed a crime and still be there".

Franken asked Sessions during his confirmation hearing on Jan 10 what he would do "if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign".

An adviser to Donald Trump's presidential campaign has admitted meeting with Russian government officials in 2016, according to a report in the New York Times which cited his testimony before a congressional committee.

In a written questionnaire to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation, Sessions also told the panel he was not in contact with anyone associated with the Russian government - despite the fact that Sessions met twice with Sergey Kislyak, then the Russian ambassador to the US, during the campaign. Other officials include Trump's former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

But Pegues reports the court documents unsealed this week claim George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign aide who pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with foreign nationals, offered to set up a meeting with then-candidate Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He later told CNN's Jim Sciutto the Russian official's name.

"I did not, and I'm not aware of anyone else that did, and I don't believe it happened", Sessions said.

Democratic sources who requested anonymity said Republican Chuck Grassley, the committee chairman, is resisting the Democrats' demands to recall Sessions.

"I don't make anything sinister out of it", Conaway told CNN. "I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I didn't have - did not have communications with the Russians, and I'm unable to comment on it".

Blumenthal wrote Sessions that he should "immediately come before the Senate Judiciary Committee to update [his] testimony and correct any omissions and any statements that may have been incorrect or misleading".

At the time of that article, a spokeswoman for Sessions declined to comment.

During a news conference in February, Trump said he knew of nobody from his campaign who was in contact with Russians during the election. A guy he had never met before, grabs him, 'Hey, I'm out on the team. "As I am focused on your success and the success of this Administration, I do not want to be a distraction or negative influence, particularly with so much important work left to do for the American people".
