Throwback Thursday Rams set NFL record with three safeties vs. Giants

The Rams, after a series of bad penalties, faced a 3rd-and-33 play from their own 48. Play as conservative as possible, keep everyone in front of you, and there's no way the offense should be able to gain all they need.

The New York Giants have been a blend if injured, suspended, and embarrassingly incompetent this season. The Rams were looking at a first-down marker that couldn't even fit on the TV camera. They went with a screen pass and not only got the 33 yards, but they added another 19 for the touchdown. Goff also has been a beast away from home, throwing for 671 yards and six TDs without an interception.

On Sunday, in the middle of their third long trip in a four-week stretch, the Rams turned the mood at MetLife Stadium grayer than the sky that hovered above it.

The Rams new and improved offense scored on eight of their first nine possessions, starting with a Goff touchdown to tight end Tyler Higbee after All-Pro lineman Aaron Donald strip-sacked Eli Manning on the Giants first drive of the game.

Rams' place kicker Greg Zuerlein continued his excellent season going a flawless 9-for-9 on kick attempts, including three field goals and six extra points.

The scoring continued about two minutes of game time later, when Goff connected with wide receiver Sammy Watkins on a 67-yard bomb for a touchdown. But Big Blue stepped up in the shadow of its goal line, holding Los Angeles to a field goal. It was the ninth straight regular season game dating back to past year in which the Giants gave up a touchdown reception to an opposing tight end.

The Giants have concerns at linebacker, though, as Keenan Robinson came off limping during the drive and was being checked on by trainers as the game resumed. Woods got open on a shallow crossing route and Goff found him on 2nd-and-goal for a four-yard touchdown.

At that point, the Rams were up 48-10.

Eli Manning (20 of 36 for 220) threw two touchdown passes and become the seventh National Football League quarterback to reach the 50,000-mark with his completion of a garbage-time pass to Sterling Shepard in the fourth quarter.
