Army jawan killed in encounter with militants in south Kashmir's Pulwama

Police said that an army jawan was killed and a civilian also suffered injuries in the crossfire. The encounter had ended with the gunning down of a militant. Three suspected JeM terrorists were also killed in the encounter, and two AK-47 rifles and a pistol recovered, said defence spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia.

Soon a fire fight broke out between the militants holed up inside a private house and the security forces, the official said. "An encounter started between security forces and militants in Kandi Aglar of Pulwama district on Monday evening when a joint team of army's 44 RR, SOG and CRPF, following specific information, cordoned off this village". The gunfight was going on when the reports last came in.

Local sources told Rising Kashmir that intermittent exchange of firing is now going-on.

"They were involved in yesterday's attack on police party in which one police man SgCt Ab Salam was martyred", the official said.

Additional security forces were rushed to further cordon off the areaand foil any attempts by militants to escape.
