Conte won his first title with the Blues in his debut season, the club's second league title in three years.

Conte, on the other hand, had this to say about the situation: "I am very sorry to see Michael leave Chelsea, and I would like to thank him for all his help and support since I arrived at this club". However, the Italian's second campaign has proved less successful so far.

The manager was defiant at full-time, saying the Brazilian could face a lengthy spell out unless he learns to get on with his team-mates.

However Emenalo pointed to the success of Christensen, who impressed for Chelsea in their 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the weekend as proof that this system was working.

'David Luiz has to work with the others if he deserves to play, otherwise he will stay on the bench or in the stands'.

But the Telegraph reports that Antonio Conte's unhappiness with Chelsea's summer transfer activity has led to tension at the club.

And senior Blues sources say it was no surprise to them that Emenalo stood down as the former Notts County defender, who played at the 1994 World Cup in the USA, had made it clear to Chelsea as far back as the summer that he was considering his future and he is understood to want to spend some time with his family before making any decision over his next challenge.

The former Notts County defender joined Chelsea in October 2007 and has been technical director since July 2011.

Chelsea have been criticised in the past for their policy of signing up young and promising players before sending them out of loan for extended periods.
