A recent Netflixemail scam has been targeting subscribers of the popular streaming service telling them that their account is about to be canceled.
"Hi, we were unable to validate your billing information for the next billing cycle of your subscription therefore we'll suspend your membership if we do not receive a response from you within 48 hours", read the email.
"Do NOT click on any links or open attachments from emails claiming to be from a trusted organisation, asking you to update or verify your details - just hit DELETE", police said in a statement.
This is not the first time Netflix subscribers have been targeted.
The email, titled "Your suspension notification", is created to mirror real messages from the streaming website. The customer is then taken to a fake Netflix site in order to add their credit card payment information. Moreover, you should be very cautious while opening emails and avoid clicking any link blindly.
Get any emails from Netflix lately?
According to MailGuard, which is private Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud security company, the fake Netflix webpage that is being used in the scam was created on a compromised Wordpress blog. Ignore the "sender" name and look for the actual email address (check it letter for letter, including the top-level domain that comes after the final dot) that the sender is using so that you can confirm their identity.
Netflix users are being warned against a fake email making its rounds to steal the personal and credit card information of users.
Netflix said it is aware of the ongoing scam, adding that the company takes security seriously and has measures in place to detect fraudulent activity.
