Pulwama/Jammu and Kashmir, November 7: Nephew of Masood Azhar, the founder and leader of the UN-designated terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed was killed in an encounter in Pulwama on Tuesday.

An Army jawan was also martyred in the encounter that broke out between militants and security forces on Monday.

Khan said that a "divisional commander" of the JeM was among the other two killed during the encounter.

The other two have been identified as Mehmood Bhai, the so-called divisional commander of Jaish in the south and Wasim Ahmed Ganie.

As the cordon was being tightened, the hiding militants fired at the joint team of security forces.

Major General B.S. Raju, GOC Victor Force, said that we have recovered an M4 carbine, a United States made weapon used by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces, from the gunfight site.

While the police had said that the civilian was caught in cross fire during the encounter, the locals had alleged that he was "deliberately" targeted by the security forces during the protests.

"This weapon (the M4 carbine) is with the special forces of Pakistan army".

"It grievously undermines an increasingly prominent Chinese narrative about the need to take a tougher line on terrorism broadly, and in Afghanistan specifically", Smith said.

"There was disruption by locals who threw stones (at the security forces). He was the main person supporting and guiding the JeM militants who were killed alongwith him", he said. "So we have reasons to believe that this particular weapon was given by the Pakistani army to JeM cadres and this clearly shows the complicity between JeM and Pakistan and their nefarious designs in Kashmir", Raju said.

The IGP said, there are around 16 to 20 Jaish-e-Mohammad militants active across the Kashmir valley.

Security forces launched a search operation in Najwan forests of Ganderbal following information about presence of terrorist hideouts in the area, a police official said.
