Mueller Probing 2016 Flynn Meeting With Pro-Russia Rep. Rohrabacher

11 November 2017, 12:49 | Rufus Hill

Did Flynn cut a $15 million deal with the Turks — during the transition?

A political enemy to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cleric Fethullah Gulen could have been whisked out of the country by Michael Flynn and his son sources of the Wall Street Journal say

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating an alleged plan in which former White House national security adviser Mike Flynn and his son, Michael Flynn Jr., were to be paid as much as $15 million in a plot to seize Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who lives in the Poconos, and deliver him to Turkish officials, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the investigation. Turkish officials, according to The Journal, first raised the possibility of removing Gulen from the country by force in an earlier meeting that took place in September.

Flynn and others also are under investigation for allegedly plotting to free a Turkish-Iranian gold trader who is jailed in the U.S. In the past, a spokesman for Flynn has denied that such discussions occurred. The Turkish government is vehemently opposed to any plan that would empower the Kurds, whom Ankara views as a threat to Turkey's sovereignty.

Mueller is said to be investigating whether Flynn and his son were scheming with the government of Turkey to essentially kidnap Fethullah Gulen, a cleric living in Pennsylvania who has always been a thorn on the side of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Mueller's team had enough evidence to charge Flynn and his son.

"What I saw and heard was sort of the end of the conversation - it's not entirely clear what transpired because of that", Woolsey said on "CNN Tonight" with Don Lemon. In addition to founding and working for Flynn Intel Group, he joined his father on a trip to Moscow in December 2015 during which Flynn was paid $34,000 to speak at an event celebrating the state-sponsored news agency RT, NBC News reported. Flynn has since resigned as Trump's National Security Adviser following allegations that he discussed easing sanctions on Russian Federation with Kremlin officials, prior to Trump's inauguration. "No such discussion occurred".

Flynn was a senior adviser on national security matters to the Trump campaign at the time, though he was also on a foreign government's payroll. "Theoretically, if they did this global kidnapping and the Turkish government killed this guy, that could be a life sentence for the Flynns".

Mueller is specifically examining whether the deal, if successful, would have led to millions of dollars in secret payments to Flynn, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. It's against the law to lobby in the United States on behalf of a foreign government without informing the Justice Department.
