Could the National Football League force Jerry Jones to sell the Cowboys?

Roger Goodell reportedly wants more than a massive salary in his next contract with the NFL

Roger Goodell reportedly wants more than a massive salary in his next contract with the NFL

After soundly routing the Cowboys on Sunday, Blank's claims insinuate that Jerry Jones isn't making much headway off the field in his reported efforts to hinder negotiations with Goodell either.

The last written counterproposal from Goodell, which was around the first of August, was seeking about $49.5 million per year, as well as the lifetime use of a private jet and lifetime health insurance for his family, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

The six-member committee consists of Blank, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, New York Giants co-owner John Mara, and Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones threatened to serve legal papers if the NFL's competition committee approved a contract extension for Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Joe Lockhart, league spokesman, confirmed the Compensation Committee will hold a conference call on Monday, but denied every other part of the ESPN report, saying it has "no basis in fact".

Jones acknowledged that he was avoiding Blank later when asked about the awkwardness.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank has released an official statement regarding the potentially controversial contract extension talks for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

All 32 owners voted in May to extend Goodell's contract and authorized the compensation committee to work out the details. "We do not intend to publicly comment on our discussions".

Goodell's current contract is slated to expire in 2019. This shows just how upset other National Football League owners are at Jones for attempting to muscle the handling of Goodell, despite his reasoning being sound.

"We're not against Roger, we just don't know if this is the time to be talking about a major contract extension when the league certainly has incredible challenges in terms of where we are with the league", Stephen Jones said during an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. The NFL said there were three incidents over five days. Most recently regarding the six-game suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Jones said his relationship with Goodell, and issues related to his compensation, are deeper than his recent concern over the league's handling of Elliott's case.
