IPhone X users reporting 'crackling' sounds from earpiece speaker
14 November 2017, 12:45 | Camille Rivera
The iPhone X is only a few weeks old but already the rumor mill is starting up about next year's iPhones. The iPhone X now retails for $999. To be more precise, the iPhone X's Samsung supplied OLED display has trouble with sudden cold.
Apple flipped the script with this year's iPhone refresh, introducing a new high-end offering known as the iPhone X. The handset features a number of radical design changes which prompted some to question whether this would be a one-off "special edition" or the future of the iPhone.
iPhone 8 had a similar issue in the earpiece when it was launched and Apple has since fixed it with a software update. As it turns out, the iPhone X doesn't like cold very much.
Apple's iPhone X comes with a front-facing double speaker which combines with the traditional speakers at the bottom of the device to produce stereo sound.
Few Apple iPhone X users are reporting a unusual green colour vertical strap on their Apple iPhone X (permanent). Many iPhone X users took to social media platforms to report these issues. Last week, Apple had also warned users that the iPhone X's OLED screen might fall prey to screen burn in, and advised users to keep the brightness as low as possible to avoid the problem.
The crackling sound occurs on affected iPhones with any kind of audio playback, including phone calls, music, videos with sound, alarms and ringtones.
That's largely because of the increased inventory availability after production issues are sorted out this year, but also because the new mid-sized model will offer newer features at a cheaper price.
Apple has acknowledged the issue and said it was working on a software update.
"Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures". It would also include Face ID, he says. Because these issues are manufacturing defects, you should be eligible for a free replacement.
Our advice to prospective iPhone X buyers is simple: Get the screen guard along with the shell cover during purchase of the device.
