It would take 67 votes to expel Moore from the Senate if he does win the December 12 election. My interpretation of that 29 percent who said somehow their more likely to support him is given that you have a widespread distrust of the news media, if you are a Republican and/or somebody who supports President Trump, and you're used to your candidate just getting routinely trashed on the media so to speak, an incident like this is likely to get your dander up and say, 'You know what, screw it. He noted that the accusation detailed in a recent Washington Post report, in which a woman claimed Moore made sexual advances on her in 1979 when she was 14 and he was 32, would count as a misdemeanor in Alabama at the time.
Susan Collins joined McConnell, tweeting that she did not believe Moore's denials and he should depart the race.
McConnell said Republicans could attempt to win the December 12 special election with a write-in candidate, possibly by Senator Luther Strange, the appointed lawmaker whom Moore defeated for the party's Senate nomination in a primary election in late September. Odd lost the Republican primary to Moore. "We'll see" if Republicans will throw their support behind unusual, he told reporters. "I was scared. I felt that if I told anyone Mr. Moore would do something to me or my family", she said. Asked if unusual might be a candidate again, he said "We'll see". "I was frightened by his position, by his power", Nelson said.
Four surveys of voters taken in Alabama, a southern state, in the immediate aftermath of the newspaper story and Moore's adamant rejection of it show him to be in a close race with Jones, separated by a few percentage points, with a significant share of undecided voters. But Moore could well ignore it since he has routinely ridiculed McConnell's performance as the Senate Republican leader and rebuffed calls from other prominent Republicans to drop out of the race. And not for the party, but for the American people.
"If true, the allegations leveled against Roy Moore are disturbing", U.S. Rep.
"To a sweeter, more lovely girl I could not say 'Merry Christmas, '" he had written in the book. "It was a Scott Walker, a Scott P. Walker, I'm Scott Kevin Walker", Walker said. And any effort to add odd as a write-in candidate would threaten to divide the GOP vote in a way that would give the Democratic candidate a greater chance of winning.
Moore is an outspoken Christian conservative and former state Supreme Court judge. Losing the special election to a Democrat would imperil Republicans' already slim 52-48 majority in the Senate, which is hoping to pass a tax overhaul later this year. But a Moore victory also would pose risks if he were to join the Senate GOP under a cloud of sexual misconduct allegations.
