Here Are the Best and Worst Times to Travel for Thanksgiving

"This is the highest number of Arizonans to hit the road for Thanksgiving since 2005".

An estimated 2.6 million Florida residents will travel at least 50 miles during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, according to an AAA forecast released Thursday. He says that large number is due in part to a strong economy and because consumer confidence is up.

Road Trip Ready: Over 945,000 will take a Thanksgiving road trip; an increase of nearly 30,000 people (3.3%).

USA motorists will take 45.5 million trips this holiday, a 1.5 percent increase over a year ago and also the most since 2005, even though gas prices are at their highest since 2014, AAA said.

Across the US 50.9 million Americans are expected to travel this Thanksgiving.

Nationally, 50.9 million Americans will travel between Wednesday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 26, according to AAA Texas.

Just under 4 million USA travelers will fly this year, an increase of almost 5 percent and the largest number since 2007.

The Better Business Bureau has a warning for travelers this year. "This should set the table for small discounts at the pump, before the holiday arrives".

Orlando is the No. 1 Thanksgiving destination, followed by Anaheim, California, New York City, Honolulu and Las Vegas. The average for a gallon of regular in OR is $2.86.

Meanwhile, Thanksgiving travelers who fly this holiday are expected to pay the lowest fares in five years for round-trip tickets on the top 40 domestic routes.

There will be 5% more passengers this year flying, and sometimes the biggest struggle when booking holiday flights is the price.

No matter your transportation option, experts want you to know that Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving, is the worst day to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Travelers can expect to spend any "flight savings" on vehicle rentals.

Martha Mitchell Meade, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic, attributed the increase in travelers to more money to spend.

AAA's projections are based on economic forecasting by research firm IHS Markit. AAA has been reporting on holiday travel trends for more than two decades.
