US President Donald Trump today slammed the allegedly biased news coverage of his administration, saying the media - except for Fox News - should compete for the "Fake News Trophy".

In a series of Twitter posts over the weekend and early Monday, Mr. Trump criticized CNN's global arm for representing "our nation to the WORLD very poorly".

Within a few hours of the bill's signing, Stelter noted, Trump singled out CNN International, possibly as a way to signal to Putin to "crack down" on the news organization. "They are all bad".

Donald Trump has tweeted that he wants to see a "fake news trophy" for the most dishonest press.

In a separate tweet on Monday, he mocked the ratings for the MSNBC show "Morning Joe", and in tweets on Sunday, he complained about CNN International.

Comey was sacked from his post by President Donald Trump amid an investigation of a likely collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian officials.

CNN analyst John Kirby came to the network's defense, noting that CNN International has long recruited "world-class journalists" who take big risks to tell hard stories. "The outside world does not see the truth from them!" said Trump from his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida.

It's not CNN's job to represent the U.S to the world.

As of Saturday evening, CNN's response had more tweets than Trump's attack.

This is not the first time the United States cable news channel, which rarely reports favorably on the current president, has heard such criticism.

CNBC reporter Christina Wilkie pointed out Monday, "The president did not have a daily intelligence briefing on his schedule this morning, leaving him with plenty of time to watch TV".
