Android 8.1 features the new burger emoji design

The new version is basically replacing Google's version of the original emoji, which had the cheese set underneath the patty - a major "burger faux pas".

These adjustments are part of a beta update, and, as Emojipedia pointed out, may change before the public release expected later this year. The difference in the android burger and any other cheeseburger was that the cheese came after the patty, reminiscent of the actual emoji. The key difference between "Android burger" emoji and any other is that the slice of cheese is placed beneath the patty and atop the lower bun.

The Monday after that online debate, Google even provided cheeseburgers in their staff cafeteria to help figure out where the cheese really belonged.

If in case you are unaware of the situation, a tweet about the problem with the burger emoji went viral.

So egregious was Google's error that CEO Sundar Pichai stepped in, promising to "drop everything" to address the cheeseburger issue.

Samsung takes a page from Google's misguided playbook, placing the cheese on top of the lettuce and sending chills down the spine.

If it looks like the upcoming Android 8.1 update may not change much about the first version of Google's Oreo-flavored mobile OS, get ready to have your mind blown by a huge software improvement revealed by emoji expert Jeremy Burge. The website is regarded by many as the Wikipedia of emojis.

New Zealand burger aficionados also weighed in, in October, agreeing cheese should be placed on top of the meat. This was when the tech giant served Android burgers to staff at the beginning of November in its Seattle office. The beer emoji previously contained drink filled to the half, but froth to the brim - nullifying all physical laws. Another emoji that has been fixed is of the cheese, which now has refined edges on the holes and readjusted colour tone.
