Facebook took Snapchat's prime feature, and marketed it in the most successful way possible.
TechCrunch reports Reels will be given their own tab, which will be separate from the creator's main list of video's.
A YouTube video introduced a new feature called Reels, which resembles the "History" Instagram and Snapchat.
However, YouTube's Reels don't expire after 24 hours, and can be kept forever or organized into folders for different events and projects. YouTube says that Reels is the company's "spin on the popular stories format, but designed specifically for YouTube creators". It will also allow creators to link the videos to YouTube and add stickers reminiscent of YouTube. Creators can also turn to the Community tab to tease subscribers about an upcoming video so that they might build additional excitement for their offerings. Reels are now being tested among a small group of the company's creators and the video-streaming platform has not yet revealed when this new feature will be rolled out to the public.
Users will also be allowed to add custom music and text and can engage with the Reels by giving them a thumbs up or a thumbs down, similar to YouTube videos and comment on them. After the said duration, Stories disappear from their accounts. Reels is now in beta mode and the final product is expected to launch soon, but after proper experimentation.
Moreover, YouTube has also "optimised" notifications about new Community posts, but subscribers won't get a notification for every new post.
YouTube has also made some changes to the Community tab. According to YouTube people wants to share stuff on the YouTube without the hassle of following the traditional ways of making a YouTube video. The Community was introduced past year, aiming to make the platform bit more engaging for both creators and viewers. These accounts will now have the ability to post text, images, polls, GIFs, and host livestreams for their fans.
