Regardless of what this means for the future, let's just enjoy what we're seeing from Woods and appreciate the fact that he's back on top of a leaderboard after almost a year off from professional golf.

A superb eagle at the par-5 ninth briefly lifted Woods into the solo lead, and another birdie followed at the 11th.

Woods scored another birdie, this one on the fourth hole to tie Tommy Fleetwood for the lead at six-under. With AP Photos. One of the biggest cheers at the Hero World Challenge was seeing the name Tiger Woods go to the top of the leaderboard.

Tiger Woods has shot a 3-under 69 on the first day of the Hero World Challenge in Nassau, his first competitive outing after a nine-month injury break.

"I hadn't played in a while but it was fun to play with a scorecard in hand again". I had a lot of adrenalin going out there and had to dial it back a little.

Unfortunately, he bogeyed the next hole and then made par for the rest of the back nine until he bogeyed the 18th which put took a bit of gloss off his mostly, excellent round.

"I struggled all day with speed on the greens".

On the par-five third his eagle putt from just off the green went just wide but left him with an easy birdie.

One would have to think those numbers were even higher on Friday as word went around of the way Woods was playing. "They were a foot faster than yesterday, they were really dry and rolling out". The first five holes I hit a lot of good shots and felt like I had a good rhythm and a couple birdies early on. "I just played solid".
