Netflix has said the final season of U.S. political drama "House of Cards" will start production next year and will not star Kevin Spacey, who is facing a number of allegations of sexual misconduct.

However, The Hollywood Reporter said Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos announced during a conference on Monday that production would resume next year.

Structuring the final season in such a way and abandoning the footage of Spacey seems to be the best thing that the show do in order to move forward and avoid some of the distractions that they would have had otherwise.

When the fifth season of the Emmy-winning show came to a close, fans watched as Wright's character, Claire Underwood, declared, "My turn".

House of Cards is produced by Media Rights Capital.

The hit series, which focuses on political dealmaking in Washington, D.C., has provided 2,000 jobs to people in the Baltimore area where it is shot, Variety reported.

It was announced in an official statement by Netflix that the company would no longer be affiliated with the once, critically-acclaimed actor following the on-going accusations against him.

Sarandos added that the season will provide closure for fans.

Netflix cut all ties with the actor, not only in house of Cards but also in the upcoming film All the Money in the World. Now production will remain on hiatus into the new year.

There have also been rumours recently that Netflix will launch a house of Cards spinoff.

Netflix followed suit, stating it would 'not be involved with any further production of House Of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey'.

The sixth season of the U.S. political drama, which starred the 58-year-old as a fictional president, was originally expected to air in mid-2018.

He said he didn't recall it, but allegations by other men followed.
