Instagram makes your Stories last forever with Archives and Highlights

07 December 2017, 01:54 | Rufus Hill

Instagram now lets you set a semi-permanent 'Story Highlight' on your profile

Introducing Stories Highlights and Stories Archive – Instagram

You can add up to 100 photos or videos to a single highlight and there's no limit to how many highlights you can post.

The first new feature is a Story Archive.

Instagram continues to build upon Stories, adding new elements that make it worth using. When you're finished, the story highlight will sit on your profile page to the right of the "new" bubble, where users tap to view it.

Instagram is also extending its Stories feature with a new Stories Highlights capability.

From now on, all your stories will automatically save to your Stories Archive when they expire. Archived stories will appear in a grid with the most recent stories at the bottom. This means you can re-share them to your current Story, post them to your feed or add them to a Highlight (more on that below).

As mentioned above, Instagram is also getting a Stories Archive feature. You just have to tap and hold the story highlight to edit or remove it. From there, you can easily switch between your Posts Archive and your new Stories Archive. Another new feature called "highlights" will let you pick your favorite stories and share them in a new section on your profile below your bio.

The Stories feature is used by 300 million people each day, and while it has always been possible to save individual Stories the process is now fully automated.

Currently, when users want to share each someone's post, they have to either save the image and post it on via their own Instagram account, or use apps designed for this objective, such as Regram. Users need to tap on the 'New'circle on the left to create a highlight. This update is rolling out in Instagram version 25 for Android and iOS.

Let's take each in part and see what they do, although you probably have already deduced for yourself. So basically, no more rushing to download each picture or video you upload to your story before it expires.

Of course, if you don't want to save those moments, you can opt out, according to Instagram. In fact, they will stay on the app permanently until you remove them.
