The Secret Service was also involved due to the connection to Mnuchin.

A Los Angeles Department bomb squad responded to a Bel-Air neighborhood Saturday night due to a suspicious package addressed to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

The package was found on Bel Air Road, near Mnuchin's home, in Los Angeles.

It was addressed "from the American people".

Mnuchin was not in Los Angeles at the time of the incident, according to a law enforcement source.

U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin testifies during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing concerning the Trump administration's fiscal year 2018 budget proposals, on Capitol Hill, May 24, 2017 in Washington, DC.

When the bomb squad opened the gift, they found what they called a "pretty good quantity' of horse manure".

Mnuchin, who KNBC said was not home when the package was discovered, is a former Goldman Sachs Group Inc executive and Hollywood film financier.

Helicopter footage from the station showed the manure spilling onto the ground after the authorities emptied the box, which was covered in Christmas wrapping paper.
