Christmas forecast calls for wind, sun - no snow
27 December 2017, 12:54 | Rufus Hill
What will weather be like this Christmas?
First few flakes start to fly in western MA around midnight.
Accumulation will be quick across Worcester County, southern New Hampshire and northern CT.
North Carolina's coastline saw a massive snowstorm back in 1989. So here are the details on our "Christmas snow... and rain... and wind".
Friday brought snow for many, Saturday brought freezing rain for most and next up is more snow and rain, but at least without the ice this time. The timing of the change will determine how much snow falls. Use extra caution while traveling as roads may become slick.
The question is do we have enough moisture to work with late this morning? Ski areas getting the jackpot!
Then, it's all about the very strong wind - blasting out of the west and ushering in some colder air to set us up for a very cold week ahead. Other than a few wrap-around flurries, our precipitation is done after noon. Even still, amounts will likely be around a half inch at best or a little more.
This storm will be feast or starvation. "So... it's still possible that Boston gets in on a slushy coating (maybe up to 2" of slush away from the coast). The forecast calls for snow and blowing snow during that period, with 4 -7 inches accumulation possible. The farther northwest you go, the fluffier the snow consistency.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all but the northern most portions of the Chicago area Sunday (Purple-shaded area on the highlighted map above).
South of Interstate 64, snow will still fall. Wind out of the west will gust to 25 miles per hour at times and will only make travel more hard. Highs today should reach the upper 30s.
Strong winds are predicted in Connecticut, Rhode Island and MA on Monday.
No coastal flooding with this storm!
Meteorologists from the National Weather Service say the lowest elevations of the Portland area could be hit with a glazing of freezing rain late Saturday or early Sunday morning - just enough to make Christmas Eve driving risky.
A week long cold spell not expected to break freezing is predicted after what forecasters said would be an ideal white Christmas.
Civilization VI Comes to iPad, For Real!
It's also important to note this iPad version is only the base Civilization VI game without any downloadable content. Not only that, due to hardware limitations, the game will require either an iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, or any iPad Pro.
