Obama tops Trump as most admired, Gallup poll of Americans finds

Former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have retained their titles as the man and woman most admired by Americans out of anyone in the entire world.

Gallup's December poll, published Wednesday, found 17 percent of respondents named Obama the man they admired most, a dip from 22 percent of respondents saying the same previous year.

Trump finished second in the poll at 14 percent.

Gallup said about one-quarter of respondents could not name a man or woman they admire most, roughly similar to last year's share who offered no opinion in response to the question.

The results are based on telephone interviews conducted between December 4-11 with 1,049 adults nationwide.

This is published unedited from the PTI feed. On the men's side, the 2016 election winner wasn't the, well, winner.

Other names high on the lists include: Pope Francis, Rev. Billy Graham, John McCain, Elon Musk, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Warren, Angela Merkel and Queen Elizabeth II. Obama landed the honor for the 10th time while Clinton has held on to the spot for 16 consecutive years, although the margin for winning was lower for both politicians than it has been in prior years, according to Gallup.

Clinton came in at 9 percent, which was her lowest since 2002 when she received 7 percent.

First lady Melania Trump registered a 1 percent, which tied her with Condoleezza Rice, Nikki Haley, Duchess Kate Middleton and Beyonce. That's according to a new Gallup poll released Wednesday. Eleanor Roosevelt is second with 13 wins. Obama is only the second former president to finish first in the list-along with Eisenhower in 1967 and 1968, while Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson was finishing up his time in office. "However, retaining that stature may be more challenging in coming years with her political career likely over".
