The incident involved two brothers, one of whom was an authorized All Nippon Airways, or ANA, passengerwhile the other had a United Airlines ticket, Transportation Security Administration spokesman Mike England said. "I don't know why I'm not more upset about this", she wrote.

Chrissy Teigen live-tweeted the U-turn journey after the airline's crew discovered that an unauthorized passenger boarded the flight. CNN reports the crew discovered the mystery passenger and alerted the pilot, who chose to return to LAX.

The ANA flight took off from LAX at 11:36am on Tuesday and landed at the same airport at 7:32pm - a total flying time of seven hours and 56 minutes.

Teigen said she and the others on the plane had the same question: Why didn't the plane simply continue to Tokyo and then send the passenger back to LAX?

Eventually, Teigen and Legend tweeted in the safety of an airline lounge.

"Lmao after all this I will have spent 8 hours on a flight to nowhere".

Tiegen, who was travelling with her husband John Legend, proceeded to post updates throughout the ordeal, masking her frustration with sharp wit.

All Nippon Airways said in a statement that the pilot flew the plane back to the Los Angeles airport after the cabin crew discovered that one of the passengers was not supposed to be there. "We are on ANA", Teigen said on Twitter". Everyone gets to suffer equally, except for one fan who managed to get a selfie with the pair. How is this the better idea, you ask?

After landing back at LAX, things got even more interesting and Teigen held it together by Tweeting every second of her adventure.

In a follow-up statement, the airline repeated its apologies, saying it "failed to deliver the customer service we strive for and passengers expect from us".

A USA government official with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the incident involved two brothers - one ticketed on ANA and the other on a United Airlines flight leaving about the same time.
