According to the information given in WhatsApp blog post, users will not be able to use this app after December 31 in the smartphones with BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows 8.0 and older operating systems.

The company has said that it is looking forward to focussing on mobile platforms which are used by the majority of the users.

It's bad news for anyone who still has a mobile phone from the stone ages because WhatsApp have just announced that their app will stop working on a bunch of older systems at the beginning of 2018. However, any device having a Blackberry operating system or Blackberry 10 will not be able to run the app, from the starting of next year. This information is given in the blog post of WhatsApp itself.

About 70% of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia, the company explained.

Why will WhatsApp no longer be supported? The company further added, "While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future". Earlier, support for messaging app was discontinued for Nokia phones running Symbian S60 from June 30, 2017. Apart from this, this app will also stop working on February 1, 2020, for smartphones with Android 2.3.7 or older.

THE clock strikes midnight on December 31, millions of us will reach for our phones to send a message to our family and friends.

WhatsApp is known for supporting older generation operating systems, but the end of support from Microsoft and BlackBerry forced WhatsApp to end the support.

They said: "When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people's use of mobile devices looked very different from today".
