The initiative, which is called "Time's Up" was announced on Monday in a full-page advert in the New York Times.

Actresses are also being called upon to wear black at the Golden Globe awards on January 7 in solidarity with the movement.

In October, the New York Times published a shocking expose about Weinstein and his three decades of predatory behavior in Hollywood. "This time the industry can't expect us to go up and twirl around". That's not what this moment is about'.

Today, over 300 leading actresses, female agents, writers, directors, producers, and entertainment executives announced the initiative called Time's Up.

Time's Up also wants to put forth legislation to penalize companies that turn a blind eye to harassment, as well as discourage nondisclosure agreements meant to keep victims quiet, according to the Times.

Emma Stone and Shonda Rhimes are amont the women who teamed up to create Time's Up, which aims to combat sexual harassment in the workplace.

Ms Witherspoon added: 'We have been siloed off from each other.

Several other women who have donated amongst Swift include Jessica Biel, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Stacey Snider, Dana Walden, Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Megan Ellison, Kate Hudson, Viola Davis, Ava DuVernay, Alicia Vikander, Amy Poehler, Olivia Munn, Jessica Chastain, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, among many others.

Women in blue-collar industries who've been exploited can access a $13 million legal defense fund.

The plan gives special focus to low-wage agriculture workers, housekeepers, janitors, factory workers and waitresses.

"It's very hard for us to speak righteously about the rest of anything if we haven't cleaned our own house", producer Shonda Rhimes told the Times.

It began with just a few dozen participants, but grew quickly as women in NY and London joined forces, and now has more than 300 members.

As the Times reports, the group is "leaderless, run by volunteers and made up of working groups"-each of which focusing on different areas of the problem or specific populations under threat".
