Bomb cyclone leaves, but brutal cold is next

By Friday morning, wind chill readings of 0 to -10 degrees will be possible.

In other words, with the temperatures and winds expected over the next several days, it won't feel like its 10 degrees or warmer until about 2 p.m. Sunday, forecasts show.

27 Storm Track meteorologist Star Derry is forecasting a high of 13 on Saturday with light snow possible late at night. Friday night should be partly cloudy, with a low around 51.

Thursday will see a 40 percent chance of rain under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 45.

Wednesday: Sunny with a high near 38.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 34.

Friday: Sunny with a high near 47.

A 30 percent chance for some snow, but less than a half-inch is possible.

Temperatures will rise on Sunday to a high of 12 degrees before dropping down to 6 degrees with the winds slackening, according to the NWS.

By Monday, highs may inch into the 40s, but, there's also a chance of a wintry mix. Calm wind becoming north around 5 miles per hour. Light and variable wind becoming east 5 to 8 miles per hour in the afternoon.

The snow is expected to turn into snow and freezing rain around 1 a.m. Tuesday and continue until early morning, which could make the Tuesday morning commute an icy nightmare.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear with a low around 20.

Wednesday's high in Madison was 12, 15 degrees below normal and 45 degrees below the record high of 57 for January 3, set in 1874.

Tomorrow: Isolated showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Another round of arctic air is set to move into Southside Virginia by Thursday, bringing gusty winds and more bitter cold.
