Injury Scare for Edmund

Dimitrov's incredible act of sportsmanship

Kyle Edmund crashes out to Grigor Dimitrov after nasty fall in Brisbane

In the Brisbane quarter-final, Dimitrov's opponent Kyle Edmond suffered an ankle injury and went down to the court.

The world number three immediately sprinted over to his opponent, hurdling the net and helping him to his feet.

"At the end of the day it's health above all", said Dimitrov. "It's very unfortunate what happened, for sure".

Dimitrov was on court for nearly two-and-a-half hours before finally subduing the British number two, who was right in the contest until he hurt his ankle with the score at 4-4 in the third set.

On the 1/2-finals tomorrow the rival of the champion will be Nick Kirios (Avl), who beat Alexander Dolpopolov (UKR) with 1:6, 6:3, 6:4.

"As bad as it is to say, it's kind of like a tap - I can turn it on when I want to", Kyrgios said after the win.

Edmund had new strapping applied to his ankle but clearly wasn't moving freely when he returned and lost the next two games, the latter one off his own serve. "But I came in here a little more level-headed (than the Raonic match), had more time to play, and was able to play my best tennis".

"But if a boxer puts his gloves down in a boxing ring, I wouldn't really call it tanking so it's just a strategy and obviously it worked again today".

In the third round, the victor in the ATP 250 race struggled with Kyle Edmund 6:3, 6:7, 6:4 in three sets and qualified for the 1/2 finals. The other semi-final will feature another Australian, 18-year-old Alex De Minaur, and unseeded American Ryan Harrison - who had been due to play Murray on Thursday before the Briton withdrew from the tournament.
