Source: Verizon also under pressure to cancel upcoming Huawei phone launch

According to the source, Verizon meant to sell the Huawei Mate 10 this summer, but it had recently been pushed back to fall, and now it appears there is a strong likelihood it will be cancelled altogether.

The firm trails only Apple and Samsung in terms of worldwide sales and an accord with a United States network may have been enough to push Huawei into the No.1 spot.

According to the Wall Street Journal, AT&T, which is the second-largest provider of mobile phone services in the U.S. in terms of subscribers, changed its mind about a deal to sell Huawei phones.

Huawei confirmed the news at CES 2018 in Las vegas, Nevada. However, recently there were reports suggesting that the deal has failed.

Huawei's plans for growth in the USA led to heightened scrutiny by Congress. It was heavily rumored that AT&T would be selling Huawei's flagship smartphone in the US, but it looks like the carrier backed out of the potential deal. It would have been the Chinese company's biggest opportunity to break into the US market with its smartphones.

"The US market presents unique challenges for Huawei, and while the Huawei Mate 10 Pro will not be sold by US carriers, we remain committed to this market now and in the future", the electronics giant said in its statement.

The reason blamed for the deal falling apart is pressure from the U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees via a letter sent to the FCC back on December 20.

As the Journal reports, part of the suspicions about Huawei stem from its background, which was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, a former engineer for China's People's Liberation Army. USA customers who were looking forward to the device can get it, but not in the manner that many prefer and have grown accustomed to.
