'Black Panther' Poised To Pounce On BO: Advance Ticket Sales Beating 'Captain America: Civil War'

Black Panther Captain America Civil War

Black Panther is a little over a month away from being released and the excitement for this film is already very high.

Fandango announced Wednesday that after only 24 hours of pre-sales tickets, Black Panther has surpassed Captain America: Civil War's record for the best first-day advance sales for an MCU film. Civil War kicked off the opening of summer 2016 during the first weekend of May with $179M.

Yes, in its first day of ticket presales, Black Panther has toppled Civil War for the No. 1 spot among MCU films. While films starring and created by black talent have long had a place at the movie theater and reliably made their money back, their reach and budgets have often been limited thanks in part to an executive-level reticence to invest in black narratives.

There may be a new king atop Marvel's movie empire.

Black Panther is due out on February 16. Those not lucky enough to get a ticket for opening night will have to wait until February 16 to see the much-hyped superhero flick.

According to a few industry estimates before tracking (via Deadline), Black Panther will likely gross somewhere between $80-85 million, with a possible shot at over $100 million in its opening weekend. The album will feature music from and inspired by Marvel Studios' Black Panther film including the lead single, "All The Stars", featuring Kendrick Lamar and label mate SZA, produced by Sounwave. The character first appeared onscreen in Civil War previous year, and the new film is already generating loads of buzz thanks to director Ryan Coogler (Creed) and a loaded cast that also includes Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, and Angela Bassett.
