Turkey Summons Top US Diplomat in Ankara Over Situation in Syria- Reports Sputnik Anton Denisov
Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary, as well as having a large network of influence and intimidation overseas.
It has repeatedly condemned Washington's support for the YPG.
While the USA views the Peoples' Protection Units (YPG) militia as the most effective fighting force on the ground against Islamic State (IS) extremists, Ankara calls it a "terrorist" organisation linked to outlawed Kurdish militants in Turkey.
Turkey has been fiercely opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during his country's six-year-old civil war but has recently been working with his allies Russian Federation and Iran for a political resolution to the conflict. The reports say that Syrian government forces, supported by Russian Federation were trying to regain control of areas controlled by Daesh and other rebel groups.
Earlier Russia's Ambassador to Ankara Alexei Yerkhov and Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian Fard were summoned to the ministry for the same reason. "If you are guarantors, which you are, stop the regime".
Rebels launched a counter-attack on Thursday.
The ministry has written to the chiefs of the Turkish army and intelligence service to insist that the terms of a cease-fire are upheld, the newspaper said.
The YPG is supported by United States with arms and training which angers Turkey.
Russia's relations with Turkey have suffered a blow due to the latest developments in Syria. "We clearly understand that, and therefore we will show solidarity", Russian media quoted Putin as saying.
Relations between Turkey and the U.S. were harmed by Washington's refusal to extradite cleric Fetullah Gulen and its provision of arms to the Kurdish militant YPG, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.
